What Does Coaching Cost And What Is This Price Based On?

What does coaching cost and is it actually worth it? A transparent breakdown of what 1:1 coaching costs, what it is worth, and why it might be cheaper than your last shopping trip.

One thing I notice with almost every new client: they come in with no idea what coaching actually costs. The first reaction, before any conversation has happened, is that the price seems high.

That is understandable. Coaching is not something you see a price tag on every day. It does not come with a product description, a store shelf, or an obvious comparison point. And unlike a gym membership or a course, the result is not a physical thing you can hold.

But the conversations I have had have shown me something consistent. Once people understand what goes into a session, what the market actually charges, and what they are already spending on things that last a fraction as long, the picture shifts completely. Every single time.

Coaching stops feeling like a cost. It starts looking like one of the most direct, lasting investments you can make in yourself. In your growth, your decisions, your capacity, and the quality of your life over the long term.

This page is here to make that case transparent.

What Went Into This

Professional coaching is a trained skill. Before I work with a single client, this is what went into it:

  • Total investment in training and certifications: approximately €20,000

  • ICF ACC credential (accredited February 2026)

  • ICF PCC certification in progress, completing Q3/Q4 2026

  • 400 hours yoga teacher training (Yoga Alliance Standards)

  • MovNat Level 2 Trainer

  • Human Movement Restoration Coach (the first one in Germany)

  • Mental Health First Aid, Central Institute for Mental Health, Berlin

  • 15+ years of professional experience across events, HR, people management, and international living

  • Personal burnout in 2018 - personal experience, not textbook knowledge

Every one of these trainings was an investment in my own growth. Each one shaped how I work, what I bring into a session, and what I am able to offer a client.

What a Session Actually Includes Beyond the Hour

The session hour is just the visible part. Behind every coaching engagement is a significant amount of work and cost that does not appear on a clock.

  • Preparation time: reading session notes, preparing tools, thinking through your situation before we meet, creating presence

  • The free fit call: a 20-minute conversation I offer without charge to every potential client and I often invest more time in this to deeply understand

  • Session summaries and client toolkit: curated resources, journal prompts, hand-picked podcast or video recommendations, and somatic tools prepared individually for you

  • Follow-up and WhatsApp support: available between sessions so the work does not stop when the call ends

  • Business tools: Zoom, Notion, scheduling software, document tools, and other platforms used to deliver a professional service

  • Business costs: professional liability insurance, accounting, tax, marketing, and ongoing professional development

A coaching price is not an hourly wage. It reflects a professional service with preparation, follow-through, and the full weight of training and experience behind it.

What Does Coaching Cost on the Market?

Across Europe, professional coaching rates typically fall in these ranges:

  • Entry-level / uncertified coaches: €60 to €90 per session

  • ICF-certified coaches: €120 to €200 per session

  • Senior or executive coaches (10+ years experience): €200 to €350 and above per session

  • International platforms (BetterUp, CoachHub): €75 to €250 per session, or €275 to €650 per month for standardised packages

Large platforms like BetterUp and CoachHub can offer lower individual prices because they operate at scale, with standardised formats and bulk contracts through employers. What they gain in volume, they often lose in individualisation. It is also worth knowing that many platforms put significant pricing pressure on the coaches themselves, paying them a fraction of what the client pays. That structure works for platform business models. It is not how independent professional coaching works.

At €150 to €175 per session, my pricing sits within the standard market rate for ICF-certified coaching and significantly below senior-level pricing. You get ICF-accredited work, a somatic approach that most coaches do not offer, and tools built specifically for your situation.

What Do You Already Invest In Without Thinking?

Most people do not think twice about spending €120 at the hairdresser. Or €80 on a dinner that is forgotten by Sunday. Or €150 on something that ends up at the back of the wardrobe.

These are not bad investments. But it is worth putting them next to each other.

Monthly lifestyle costs receipt. Showing that coaching is not that expensive.

The hairdresser is not a bad choice. But the effect grows out. What you work through in coaching does not — it ripples into all areas of your life.

What Value Does Coaching Actually Create?

One session will not change your life. But over the course of a coaching engagement, the changes are measurable and lasting:

  • Decisions made from clarity. Not from fear, exhaustion, or the need to please everyone in the room.

  • Patterns you have been running on — noticed, named, and actually changed.

  • Nervous system regulation under pressure, so the next difficult season does not cost you the same.

  • Capacity for transition and uncertainty, without burning out every time the environment changes.

  • A relationship with yourself that travels with you, regardless of where you are or what you are doing.

These are not soft outcomes. They affect your career, your relationships, your health, your ability to make decisions and hold your ground. The skills built in coaching go everywhere you go. They do not grow out.
